During MY 15/16, a Korean campaign by the potato industry to rebuild lost market share not only achieved its goal of regaining the U.S.’ market position, but also developed new distribution channels that were previously the near-exclusive territory of competitors. Because Potatoes USA has found competitions to be a highly successful tactic in the very competitive Korean market, it utilized an in-house contest for a key distributor to help rebuild sales. A series of trade education activities, such as “Why Buy” training, were held with the staff of CJ Freshway, a leading food distributor handling 40 different U.S. frozen products from multiple U.S. processors.
